Why Step Forward for Kindness?

It started when Deb became a legal guardian of a homeless man, John, and his dog Carrie, to get them off the streets because of the frequency that both John and Carrie were physically beaten up by strangers, for fun, just because they were homeless.

Deb says with increasing age,  she has noticed that people seem to spend more time tearing people apart, rather than assisting or showing any kindness.

Suicide rates a growing concern in our communities – it is time that we say #ENOUGH!

Deb has seen this happen personally, in the workplace, and via social media and witnessed many instances where people are quick to criticise both personally and professionally, but fail to compliment or just be nice to each other, and in some cases, are happy to tear people down for their own career advancement.

Such actions, on top of events such as COVID, must be a factor in the increasing mental unhealth of people generally.

To counteract events (that she was not in a position to influence), Deb tries to pay it forward by giving back or doing random acts of kindness in any way she can, but with mental health and suicide rates a growing concern in our communities – it is time that we say #ENOUGH!

We want you to imagine a world where we can succeed by being nice and looking out for one another and help raise each other up rather than tear each other down, and where random acts of kindness are the norm rather than the exception. How much nicer would that be!

That’s why Clubs Without Borders and Integrity Group are making a move towards mental fitness and kindness by partnering with Gotcha4Life to challenge participants to walk 10km to support our cause and to make a statement that we really need to be kinder to one another especially in this time where we are dealing with a global pandemic, vaccine fears and lockdowns.

Therefore, we are calling on our club, council and business network to take part in our Step Forward for Kindness challenge and support the amazing work that Deb’s friend Gus Worland and his team at Gotcha4Life are doing in the mental fitness and suicide prevention space.

Debbie herself, who is not known for her sporting prowess, is planning on walking 60kms from Bondi to Palm Beach to honour the milestone of her 60th birthday and to honour people like John, who has faced physical violence and abuse and who is very close to Debbie’s heart.

Step forward for kindness invitation

While Deb has made a massive difference in John and Carrie’s lives, there are plenty more people who need help, but whose day can be improved just by a random act of kindness. You might like to join Deb’s team and walk all or a portion of her 60km, sponsor her walk, or just donate for her 60th birthday!

To all our amazing clients and contacts across the country, and even any overseas, we are asking you to register yourself, create a team or join an existing team and walk 10kms on Sunday 27th March 2022. It’s an opportunity to bring people together, connect, exercise and raise money for mental wellness.

Debbie sends her love and thanks you for your support.

So, register to take part in our “Step Forward for Kindness Challenge” today!

We will see you there, ready to make your mark for mental wellness.
